FORMER PRESIDENT OF NUJ LANRE OGUNDIPE SENDS MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES TO THE CHAIRMAN NUJ OYO STATE COUNCIL ON THE DEATH OF OLOYE LEKAN ALABI
The former president of Nigeria Union of Journalists and also Africa Union of Journalists, Lanre Ogundipe, has sent a message of condolence to the chairman Oyo state Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists ( NUJ)
Comrade Akeem Abas on the death of Oloye Lekan Alabi.
In a letter sent to the Chairman Oyo State council
by Lanre Ogunddipe says
“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of our distinguished colleague, elder statesman, and veteran journalist Oloye Abdulrasheed Olalekan Alabi (1950–2026).”
“On behalf of my family and in my personal capacity, I extend my heartfelt condolences to you, the Executive Committee, the entire membership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, and indeed the wider Nigerian media community on this painful loss.
Oloye Lekan Alabi belonged to that rare generation of journalists whose lives were defined by professional excellence, integrity, and an abiding commitment to public service. He was a consummate communicator, an accomplished public relations practitioner, and a meticulous newsman whose career remains a reference point for younger generations of media professionals.
His distinguished service as Press Secretary to the late Chief Bola Ige, working alongside accomplished professionals such as Dapo Aderinola and Femi Mapaderun, and his subsequent appointments under Major-General Oladayo Popoola (Rtd.) and other governors, reflected the immense confidence reposed in his competence, discretion and professionalism.
Beyond journalism, Oloye Lekan Alabi was a passionate custodian of Yoruba culture and an ardent ambassador of Ibadan’s rich historical heritage. Even in his later years, he remained actively engaged in public communication through his insightful broadcasts on Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Space 90.1 FM and other platforms, where his wisdom, wit and deep knowledge continued to educate, inspire and entertain countless listeners.
His transition is not only a great loss to the NUJ family but also to the media profession, Ibadanland, and the Yoruba cultural community. His legacy of service, humility, professional discipline, and cultural patriotism will remain a source of inspiration for generations yet unborn.
As we mourn this irreparable loss, may we also celebrate a life remarkably lived in faithful service to journalism, humanity, and our cultural heritage.
May Almighty Allah (SWT), in His infinite mercy, forgive his shortcomings, admit him into Al-Jannah Firdaus, comfort his immediate family, strengthen the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, and grant all who mourn him the fortitude to bear this painful loss.
