THE UNSHAKABLE ALLIANCE: TINUBU AND Sanwo-Olu’s POLITICAL RELATIONSHIP. By Dr Segun Awosanya

Amidst swirling speculations regarding the relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu—particularly in light of recent tensions with the Lagos House of Assembly—a deeper analysis reveals a more nuanced reality.
Political observers have noted a recurring pattern in @followlasg politics: governors anointed by Tinubu often face significant challenges during their second terms. These challenges typically manifest as a deterioration in relations between the governor and Tinubu, who remains widely acknowledged as the chief architect of modern Lagos. This pattern has been so consistent that one former governor failed to secure a second term, while others saw their political influence diminish considerably after their gubernatorial tenures concluded.
Governor @jidesanwoolu’s situation, however, appears distinctly different. Despite coordinated attempts by various political interests to create discord between him and President Tinubu, these efforts have consistently fallen short. The governor has maintained unwavering focus on building upon Tinubu’s developmental blueprint for Lagos while demonstrating steadfast loyalty to his political mentor. Unlike predecessors who may have harbored ambitions that eventually led to political miscalculations, Sanwo-Olu has shown no indication of personal political aspirations that might compromise his relationship with the President.
For his part, President @officialABAT has demonstrated exceptional foresight in leadership succession planning. His selection of Sanwo-Olu—a seasoned technocrat with extensive public service experience—has proven particularly judicious. Under Sanwo-Olu’s administration, Lagos has continued its trajectory of growth and development, with tangible infrastructure improvements and policy initiatives that clearly reflect lessons learned from Tinubu’s governance philosophy.
The relationship between these two political figures remains resilient and impenetrable despite external pressures. Political opportunists and strategists attempting to drive a wedge between them have consistently failed to gain traction.
As Marcus Aurelius wisely noted, “Men speak opinions, not facts. Our eyes see perspective, not truth.” The evident truth in this political dynamic is that the mentor-protégé relationship between HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and HE Babajide Sanwo-Olu transcends ordinary political alliances, representing instead a synergistic partnership built on shared vision and mutual respect for Lagos State’s continued advancement.
Time will inevitably vindicate this perspective, as the tangible results of their collaborative governance approach continue to manifest in Lagos State’s development.
