Stakeholders in Kwara and Niger States have praised President Bola Tinubu for taking the bold step of constructing the 1000-kilometer Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, with Governors Umaru Bago and Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Kayode Alabi describing the project as further evidence of the President’s commitment to driving phenomenal socioeconomic growth.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, emphasized that the stakeholders’ session demonstrates President Tinubu’s bold vision and that the country is racing to align development priorities and population growth with commensurate infrastructure that connects all parts of Nigeria.
The minister of works, David Umahi, who praised Governors AbdulRazaq and Bago for their support of the President, stated that the ministry has 18 federal projects in Kwara State and that additional efforts will be made to complete some of those that are considered to be behind implementation schedules.
The Governor and his delegates stated that the proposed road project demonstrates President Tinubu’s ambitious vision to construct infrastructure that improves national connectivity and helps boost the economy.
Mr. Kayode Alabi, the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, represented the Executive Governor, who was attending another crucial engagement with the President in the national capital, Abuja, as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
Mr. Alabi praised the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for his superb work of combining technical expertise in this important terrain with political abilities in navigating the various land mines. He said the conversation is necessary and assured the minister of the state government’s support throughout the completion of the project
Governor Bago, on his part, asked the people of Kwara and Niger to support the federal Government and take ownership of the road projects, claiming they were for their own benefit.
The Governor stated that residents should embrace the project because of the benefits it brings, cautioning communities not to disturb contractors or seek reimbursement from the government.
The Minister thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for organizing the event and for his hospitality during the deliberations. He also praised the roles of the Ministers of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi SAN and Dr. Jemilat Bio, in supporting the approval of the Kaiama-Tesse-Kishi road’s development.
Barinada Mpigi, chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, denounced the rate at which contractors abandon road projects once they have been mobilized, saying the Senate would not hesitate to discipline those who fail to return to sites on time.
In his goodwill message, Alhaji Kamoru stated that the project will significantly save logistics and travel time for the entire nation.
The National Orientation Agency has promised its commitment to effectively mobilizing favorable public support for the construction of the Sokoto/Badgary superhighway in Nigeria.
The stakeholders’ meeting provides an excellent forum for discussions on the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, which will improve infrastructure development and socioeconomic growth.
