The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye has advised Nigerian Journalists against sensational reporting capable of dwindling the Nation’s image

Mallam Ajakaye gave this caution at this year’s Press Week Grand Finale organized by Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ, Correspondent Chapel, in Ilorin, the State Capital

He urged journalists to desist from lebeling the Country as a failed state but imbibe developmental reportage instead of damaging the national branding of Nigeria

Mallam Ajakaye cited developed nations with odd incidents but deliberately under-reported by their media outlets to promote their images and reminded the pen pushers to be critical stakeholders of nation’s positive branding to the outside world

In his submission, Chairman of the occasion, an Ilorin-based foremost Industrialist and Chief Executive Officer, Kamwire Holdings, Mr Kamaru Ibitoye charged Nigerians to refrain from acts that could portray the Country in a bad light

Alhaji Ibitoye represented by Alhaji Abdulfatai Adeyemi, described Nigeria as a nation of talented citizens making the Country proud in their respective professional calling and tasked journalists to be determined in beaming searchlights on positivity of Nigeria to redeem its soiled image

In his remark, Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Correspondent Chapel, Alhaji Abdul-Hakeem Garba listed challenges confronting journalists including non payment of salaries, spate of Journalists fighting for the right of others and run at a loss as most of rights to journalists are trampled upon by security agencies particularly the Police

Alhaji Garba expressed his disappointment over incessant harassment of journalists with nebulous laws hindering effective delivery of media professionals and encouraged members of fourth estate of the realm as endangered species not to be deterred in discharging their constitutional and professional duties

The NUJ Correspondent Chapel Press Week honoured selected individuals including Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, Former Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Police Command, Retired DSP Ajayi Okasanmi and Chief Executive Officer, Kamwire Holdings, Mr Kamaru Ibitoye among others
