PROF OLUWOLE ALBERT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN ADVOCATES SECURITY EDUCATION FOR VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS IN NIGERIA.
A Professor of Peace and Strategic Studies at the University of Ibadan, Professor Olawale Albert, has advocated security education for various stakeholders with a view to being pragmatic rather than sentimental in identifying security
risk situations.
Prof. Albert who was analyzing 2024 in Retrospect as it concerns Security on BCOS TV Current Affairs breakfast programme ‘AM120’ said it is high time religious, tribal and other sentiments are jettisoned for the country to deal decisively with insecurity in its various forms .
Addressing how Nigeria found itself in the current security situation, Prof. Albert pointed out that the various stakeholders have chosen to be seeing ethnic, religious and racial colouration in the security situation thereby making the situation to grow
beyond imagination.
The University Don stressed the need for government to embrace scientific analyses of the nation’s security issues so as to rather appropriately deal with it, than beating about the bush.
Speaking about the recent Ibadan stampede, Prof. Albert criticized security .
operatives for failure to be proactive in attending to the situation headlong, stating that security agencies should not wait for invitation to be present at the scene of any potential crowd gathering.
Professor Albert who observed that the present leadership in the country is
on the right direction in tackling security challenges urged Nigerians to continue praying and trusting the President’s efforts to establish a comprehensive security framework for the nation.
