N70,000 MINIMUM WAGE COVERS DOMESTIC WORKERS – AKPABIO

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that the newly approved minimum wage, applicable across both public and private sectors, including maids and other domestic staff.

The Senate president confirmed this during Tuesday’s plenary session.

The bill swiftly passed through both chambers of the National Assembly upon transmission by President Bola Tinubu.

Akpabio emphasized, “Whether you’re a tailor employing extra hands or a mother hiring a housemaid, the minimum wage of N70,000 must be adhered to.

It’s not amaximum but a universal standard.” He applauded the Nigeria Labour Congress, all Nigerians, and the National Assembly for the legislation, reducing wage review intervals from five years to three due to rising costs of living .

The Senate however, adjourned to reconvene on September 17.
