MAKINDE REWARDS OYO ANTHEM COMPOSERS WITH 25 MILLION NAIRA.
Oyo state Government has approved ₦25 million compensation for the composers of the State anthem, ‘Asiwaju Ni Wa.’
According to the state Commissioner for Information & Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state anthem composers will
each get a parcel of land, while streets will be named after them, in addition to the production of a documentary by the State Ministry of Information & Orientation on the history behind the anthem.
In a statemente issued after the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday,
the Commissioner for information noted that ‘Asiwaju Ni Wa’ became the official anthem of the State about a decade ago without any form of reward or compensation for the composers, a situation that made the State Executive Council set up a committee last year to review the whole process with a view to rewarding people behind the anthem.
While approving,
Governor Seyi Makinde acknowledged the initiative and foresightedness of Chief (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, wife of the former Governor of the State, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
