Christians have been admonished not to shy away from active participation in politics, rather, they should seek to illuminate governance with salt and light.
This was the core of discussion at a special democracy day service held on Wednesday June 12, 2024 by the Rhema Chapel International Churches, Tanke Ilorin.
Themed “Christian Participation in Politics: Resolving the Conflicts of Righteousness and Corruption,” the event, held at the International Convention Centre (Rhema Chapel) gathered a significant number of participants who engaged in meaningful discussions on the critical role of Christians in the political landscape.
In his opening remarks, Pastor Adeogun Ajala, the programme coordinator emphasised the importance of reiterating active participation of christians in politics because believers keep describing politics as a dirty game.
He explained that the programme became imperative because the church leadership under its Apostolic Oversight Rev. George Adegboye believes in empowering people with adequate knowlegde and insight to make a difference in every sphere of human endeavour, politics inclusive.
The guest speaker, Pastor (Prof.) E. O. Ojo delivered an inspiring keynote address emphasizing the need for Christians to actively engage in politics while maintaining their moral and ethical standards.
Pastor Ojo highlighted the challenges of balancing righteousness and the pervasive corruption in the political arena and provided actionable insights on how Christians can navigate these conflicts effectively.
The program included a series of debate sessions, panel discussions, and political talks that allowed attendees to delve deeper into the complexities of political engagement from a Christian perspective.
Also present at the event were teachers and students of Emmanuel Baptist College, Havillah Private Schools, Roseville Schools among others. The pupils equally made vital contributions encouraging believers to play their part
in governance
These interactive segments fostered a robust dialogue among participants, who shared their experiences and strategies for maintaining integrity in public service.
Rhema Chapel’s Democracy Day Service underscored the importance of Christians taking on leadership roles to influence positive change and uphold justice and righteousness in governance.
The event concluded with a commitment from attendees to actively participate in the political process and advocate for policies that align with their faith and values.
